Sri Lankans residing in Nepal have been advised to remain indoors and take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing unrest in the country, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu announced today.
The Embassy said that while no Sri Lankans have been harmed so far, precautionary measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of the community. A total of 99 Sri Lankans including 22 university students, Embassy staff, and other residents are currently in Nepal.
Community members have been requested to keep an adequate supply of water, dry rations, and essential medication at hand. The Embassy can be contacted for assistance on its 24-hour hotline: +977-9851048653.
To maintain communication, the Embassy has established WhatsApp groups through which advisories are issued. University students have already been contacted, and the Embassy has shared its emergency contact details among Sri Lankans for real-time updates.
Meanwhile, diplomatic channels remain under strain as government offices in Nepal are currently not functioning. Reports also confirmed that the Foreign Minister of Nepal was attacked at her residence, further escalating concerns.
The Sri Lankan Embassy said it continues to closely monitor developments in consultation with community leaders and will remain in constant touch with Sri Lankans in Nepal.
