Sri Lankan missing in Hamas attack may be among hostages: Israel Foreign Ministry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel has officially informed the Sri Lankan mission in Israel that Sujith Bandara Yatwara, who was missing in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, may be among the hostages held by Hamas. 

The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry and Bandara Yatawara's family members have also been informed about this.

However, the Israeli police are checking whether there is a match between the DNA samples given by Bandara Yatawara's children and the unidentifiable bodies.

Before this, the number of missing persons was said to be 222, but yesterday's updated data states that the number is 239.

Against this backdrop, the embassy is working with all sectors of the Israeli government to rescue Bandara Yatawara.
