Sri Lankan man denies indecent exposure in Southampton

Daily Echo - Sukirthan Thangrasha, of New Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire, also denied a charge of common assault at Portsmouth Crown Court today, but did plead guilty to a count of assault by beating.

The court heard that the defendant, who attended the hearing with the help of a Tamil interpreter, is accused of arriving in the UK without leave to do so in October 2021.

Thangrasha also faces a charge of indecent exposure, which was alleged to have taken place in Southampton on August 15 this year, alongside two assault offences against separate victims on the same day.

Judge James Newton-Price KC set a trial date for March 10, 2026, with a pre-trial review hearing set to take place on December 15.

Remanding the defendant in custody, the judge said: "Before I conclude the hearing there are some warnings I have to give you. As part of your defence you have to provide a defence statement that states your case.

"If it is not detailed enough that can count against you but your lawyers will help you with that.

"If you fail or refuse to attend the trial that can be a separate offence. At the trial you will have the right to give evidence but if you fail or refuse to attend, the trial could proceed in your absence.

"In which case your barrister might have to withdraw and the judge might inform the jury of the reason of that absence."
