Colombo, April 5 (Daily Mirror) - A commemorative tea table book titled “Sri Lanka - China Relations: Community with a Shared Future” was launched in Beijing, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and China.
The publication was unveiled by the Sri Lankan Embassy in the presence of a distinguished gathering, including Cao Jing, Deputy Director General of the Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, officials of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
Authored by veteran diplomat Ananda Kumarasiri, the publication highlights Sri Lanka’s resilience by tracing its rich history, civilization, and cultural heritage, while offering insights into the island’s longstanding global identity as “a land like no other.”
Delivering the opening remarks, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to China, Majintha Jayesinghe, expressed appreciation to the author and recalled the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations in 1957. He noted that the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and China has deep historical roots and has grown significantly over time.
Ambassador Jayesinghe emphasized that the publication captures the essence of Sri Lanka’s heritage and achievements, and expressed hope that it would inspire future generations to take pride in the shared history and further strengthen bilateral ties.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Kumarasiri highlighted the potential for enhanced cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas such as technology, industrial development, renewable energy, value-added exports, and resource recycling.
