Sri Lanka win four medals at Thai Open Athletic Championship

Sri Lankan athletes won two gold medals and two silver medals on the first day of the Thai Open Athletic Championship in Bangkok (23). The meet, which will be held until June 25, will feature athletes from several countries in the Asian region.

In the Men’s 1,500m final, Rusiru Chathuranga (3:53.30s) and in the Women’s long jump, Madushani Herath (6.37m) won gold medals. V. Vakshan won the silver medal in the Men’s 1,500m event by finishing in 3:54.72s, while W.K.L.A. Nimali won the silver medal in the Women’s 1,500m final by finishing in 4:32.39s. In addition, Amasha de Silva (100m) and Wathsala Hapuarachchi (100m hurdles) secured first place in their respective heats, with the finals scheduled for today.

Meanwhile, Madushani Herath cleared 6.37m with the personal best in the Women’s long jump. Four men and four women athletes are representing Sri Lanka at this meet.
