Sri Lanka will need primary healthcare centres every 2 kms soon: Minister

Colombo, March 6 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka will need primary healthcare centres every 2 kms because of the increase in the spread of non-communicable diceases and the aging population, Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa told Parliament today.

"Around 14 percent of the Sri Lankan population are suffering from diabetes while 34 percent is suffering from high blood pressure. In addition Sri Lanka's aging population is expected to be 20.8 of the total population by 2032 while it will increase to 22 percent of the total population by 2037. We will have to focus on primary healthcare more and more because of the given situation," he added.
