*Tackling it offers opportunity for green path out of crisis
* Renewable energy, electric mobility, tree planting, green agriculture and ecotourism all offer huge opportunities
Former Norwegian Minister Erik Solheim who is the International advisor of climate change to President Ranil Wickremesinghe said Sri Lanka is ‘very vulnerable ‘ to climate change and dry areas in the north may be drier and the wet areas in the south wetter .
In responses to questions posted by Daily Mirror by email , Mr. Solheim who was in Sri Lanka at the invitation of the president said the threats from landslides and extreme weather will increase.
However, he said tackling climate change is also ‘an enormous opportunity’ to create green jobs and bring all Sri Lankans into a decent middle class life.
“My old friend Ranil Wickremesinghe invited me to visit Sri Lanka and asked me to be his International Climate Adviser. I am looking forward to working closely with the President and his great team on how to assist Sri Lanka to find a green pathway out of the economic crisis. Renewable energy, electric mobility, treeplanting, green agriculture and ecotourism all offer huge opportunities for jobs and prosperity while taking good care of Mother Earth at the same time,” he said.
Mr. Solheim called the proposal for an university on climate science in Sri Lanka a brilliant idea
“Sri Lanka has a very rich intellectual tradition and can establish a hub for climate science - working closely with other Indian Ocean nations and the rest of the world,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)

Sri Lanka only has intellectual tradition with Buddism, Sinhala and traditional culture. None of which are worth much accept to wide-eyed tourists. Unless there is thorough analysis done can't even talk about properly focused information about affect of Sri Lankan towards climate change. All the deforestation and agriculture are not seemingly considered. Without taking responsibility for those, this all seems like another scam for what the government thinks is low hanging funds/loans/low interest loans. Mr Solheim unless you can show how our public as mass can take responsibility for their actions for causing for climate change, with all due respect, it seems you are traditional con artist or at best just a bullshit salesman.

It is very obvious. Due to the many reasons that Srilanka faced a huge climatic change during last two decades. The deforestation, large scale land clearing and the conversation of rubber plantations in to the other type of land use pattern were remarkably increased which caused the immense climatic change. Thus previous governments which were in power introduced number of strategies like dayata kirula and dayata sevena island wide tree planting programmes in order to uplift the the forest cover In the veiw of mitigating the climate change. Thus the forest department launched numerous planting programmes in collaboration with other government and non government organizations. But all programmes were futile. Hence the government should focus on a new strategic plan with innovations

This old curse called Solheim never seems to die away.. If he's being paid a salary from bastard Ranils treasury, he can start his work by joining May 19th victory celebrations and laying a wreath at war memorial.. btw, wasteland Norway is much more vulnerable to climate change..
