Colombo, Nov. 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department has issued a high alert covering all districts and surrounding sea areas due to an active weather system affecting the island.
The department warned that heavy showers and strong winds are expected to continue over the next few days. Intermittent showers and thundershowers will occur across most parts of the country.
Expected rainfall:
Very heavy falls above 200 mm in parts of Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western provinces, and Trincomalee district.
Falls above 150 mm in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces, and Badulla and Batticaloa districts.
Falls above 100 mm in other areas.
Wind conditions: Very strong winds of 60–70 kmph, gusting up to 80 kmph, are likely in most parts of the island.
The public has been urged to take precautions to minimize damage, particularly in hilly and landslide-prone areas, river basins, and coastal low-lying regions.
