Sri Lanka receives brown bears, hyenas, and meerkats from UAE

Colombo, Feb 10 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka has received a pair of brown bear, a pair of Hyenas and three pairs of Meerkats from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to be displayed in zoological gardens in Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Environment said the Hyenas will be quarantined for a month at the Ridiyagama Safari Park while the other animals will be quarantined at the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens for a month.

The animals will be displayed to the public after their quarantine periods.

Wow! Look at the great assets our president has brought to Sri Lanka from his visit to the UAE - a pair of brown bears, Hyenas and three pairs of Meerkats! This shows how adroit the NPP negotiators are in matters relating to foreign relations and maximising returns to our country from such foreign visits. Never in the history of Sri Lanka has any president or prime minister brought so much wealth to Sri Lanka from a foreign visit!!! Kudos to our great president AKD!!! PS: We do not know what havoc these animals would cause to our country in a context where elephants, monkeys, dogs and cats, caterpillars, etc., have already caused severe damage to the country after the NPP assumed power.

These animals are going to be good attractions for locals and tourists. So , don't be sarcastic about it. President is going to bring more than this. Just look at what he brought from China. Several billions of dollars of investments from China visit. He is not going on shopping trips like former presidents.

That's how much Sri Lanka is worth! These animals are very common in the woods, grasslands and backyards. Sri Lanka's record of caring for elephants, leopards and zoo animals is so bad, why would anyone give prized animals?

We don't have room or sufficient food for the animals in our zoo and parks already so why did you accept this? It's a slap in the face to give you animals that aren't even from the UAE area. Also, brown bears need a colder climate.
