Sri Lanka ‘reaches out’ for NSG help from India

Sri Lanka has sought assistance from the India’s National Security Guard (NSG) for operations as well as investigation against local terror threats, the Economic Times reported.

Quoting sources, it said Sri Lanka has informally reached out to India over dispatching NSG commandos.

India, however, as a matter of principle does not want to send troops to a foreign land out of own volition and would rather wait for a formal request, sources added.

A crack team of counter-terror NSG commandos has been put on standby in Chennai following Friday raids in Sri Lanka in which 15 persons were killed.

An Indian ministry official has said: “Considering the expertise of NSG in post-blast investigations, we have asked them to be on standby. They will be assisted by their seniors from New Delhi. Over 100 commandos of the counter-terror and counter-hijack squads of the NSG have been based at the hub. The final decision to deploy them for assistance in Sri Lanka will be taken by the foreign ministry of the two nations.”

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has thanked India for providing intelligence ahead of attacks and sought future assistance to counter threats.

what nonsense is this. Our security forces are doing a wonderful job and they are more than capable of managing the situation. Only the useless politicians are not doing their job. We must get a good prime minister and president, instead.

we can start by getting a good minister of defence ,Marshal sarath Fonseka.Cardinal malcolm Ranjith should lead the movement to press Sira to take that decision now. He is playing for the gallery with no tangible plan on his mind .
