Colombo, July 29 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka has been crowned the most beautiful island in the world, taking the top spot on the list of "The 50 Best Islands in the World" compiled by global travel site Big 7 Travel.
The 2025 list celebrates the world’s most breathtaking island destinations, with Sri Lanka placing ahead of well-known island paradises such as Mo’orea in French Polynesia, the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, and the Seychelles.
According to Big 7 Travel, Sri Lanka was chosen for its rich blend of cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and pristine beaches. The list also praised the island nation for its unique wildlife, ancient temples, lush tea plantations, and vibrant local experiences.
Here is the Top 10 from the 2025 ranking:

Great achievement? Do you have to be that much of a slave to the present Govt. to attribute the beauty of the country to it.? How pathetic!!! It was always beautiful; but since 2023-2024, we have been getting many tourists and more people are getting the opportunity to see the positive aspects of our country. Don't forget that it was Ranil Wickremasinghe who took the country out of its hell hole to at least bring it to its present normalcy. Furthermore, it may be visually beautiful, but dont dont forget its rotten to the core as far as we natives are concerned. Would you like to attribute that also the NPP? or should I say "EET ISS a BIIG QUICHEN"

Who is 'Big 7', a two-bit company? We've been called the best several times over by renowned travelogues, and will be in the future as well, but what has come after that? Meanwhile there's over-tourism in countries like France.

It is a fact because one can go from tropical climate and surroundings to temperate surroundings in a matter of few hours and not not mention the beaches and ancient relics. But unfortunately most people go about their daily business without any care or regard and politicians in previous governments together with high ranking officials have dome immense harm to the nature either by pure corruption or by disregarding damage to nature in carrying out projects (e.g. debunked Hambantota airport in a nature reserve). In addition to prosecuting offenders, the present government using the media should carry out an intense awareness campaign among the public on nature , its benefits and how not to damage it in their day to day activities

True.most beautiful and resourceful Island but depending on foreign countries for existence. Our women are compelled to work as Housemaids in other countries for low salaries to send dollars

That is to supply dollars to Rupee rich people to import luxuries

True. Many families are ruining because mothers have left the country. Small Kids are deprived of mothers' love and affection. Teenage male and female children are going on a wrong path because their father are in their own world. Women return home after working abroad several years with chronic diseases such as diabetes, high pressure, cholesterol etc. In the absence of proper social security system, they have to depend on others for survival.

Beauty, location, diverse weather- no doubt unmatched. Culture, behavior of locals, discipline on roads - should be right at the bottom

“Behaviour of locals”? What a sanctimonious thing to say! Why don’t you be more specific? Eg Locals are not assertive enough with rude and unruly foreigners!

The word island diminishes the status of any country that is an island. Japan, Britain ,New Zealand are all islands slightly bigger than Sri Lanka , describe them as islands and see the furious response from these countries.

Correct, and it was forgotten to mention that three times a week, a murder or attempted murder involving firearms takes place in public, which could attract adventure tourists.

Wow Sri Lanka! Too bad the corrupt politicos and bureaucrats- at all levels of govt - don't appreciate this value and will do everything possible to destroy tourism, tourism that brings invaluable forex to SL to uplift all other facets to complement the #1 Most Beautiful status. Just the harassment that tourists face, from local scammers to pesky street kids/beggers and how the police are so lakadesical about it, is a case in point!

After 1970 we never had any genuine politicians, all crooked currupted and murderous And the present bunch did some serious damage to the economy coz they burnt transformers, attacked police stations, forced shops to close and collected IDs from people.

This is not due to something Sri Lankans have done. It's due to natural beauty. Sri Lankan politicians have destroyed the economy and the well-being of its citizens. Stop taking credit for something that's been there naturally.

Sri Lanka is blessed with an abundance of nature's wonders , but I dont think the authorities appreciate and value what they have been bestowed. The beach in Colombo is strewn with garbage. It's an easy fix but nobody jas the will to fix it.

Whilst all and sundry will endorse that Sri Lanka is a beautiful island in the world but the question arises whether the people are happy about this country. We see a lot of strife among people from every quarter of this country beginning with our politicians in the legislative and among communities because many politicians preach many things but do not practice what they preach. Look at the proceedings of our Parliament on a daily basis it is infighting where the rulers and opposition cannot see eye to eye but except for a few. the others cannot accept constructive criticism which is taken personally. So it seems that our countrymen are not at all happy but those visitors from other countries are overjoyed by the scenic beauty of this country. Since independence we had educated legislators who were a treat to watch and observe by the public when debates took place. It is the other way round. Oh Sri Lanka where art thou leading is it down a precipice!!!!!!!
