Sri Lanka launches global diplomatic push for flood relief, PM to brief foreign envoys

A diplomatic briefing will be held today, 28 November 2025, at the Prime Minister’s Office, led by the Prime Minister, to update Colombo-based Heads of Mission on the Government’s ongoing emergency flood-relief operations and recovery efforts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said that all Heads of Mission and Posts of Sri Lanka’s diplomatic missions abroad will join the meeting virtually.

The briefing will focus on ensuring the safety and security of affected communities and outline immediate as well as post-flood recovery measures. Most diplomatic missions in Colombo are expected to express solidarity and support for the Government of Sri Lanka during this challenging period. Missions will also convey their readiness to collaborate with local authorities in facilitating humanitarian assistance and contributing to ongoing relief and recovery initiatives.

In line with these efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism has established an Emergency Response Unit to coordinate overall communication and assistance between Sri Lanka’s diplomatic missions abroad and Colombo-based missions.
