The fuel prices in Sri Lanka remain to be the lowest prices in South Asia, even after the fuel price hike, State Minister of Finance, Capital Markets and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal said.

“Even after increasing the fuel prices, Sri Lanka is having the lowest prices in South Asia,” Minister Cabral had tweeted.

How is Sri Lankan petrol price be lower than that of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Maldives, which are below even in the shown table? Diesel price is only marginally higher than that of Maldives. Whatever the absolute values are, it will be more useful and revealing if the Hon. Minister can present the prices as a ratio based on each country's average per capita income.

The LKR has depreciated by 50pct against the USD over the past 5 years and crude oil had to be imported.We have no way out other than a price revision.Furthermore the crude oil prices are on a upward trend.

How about switching to 87 Octane fuel which is lot cheaper the 92 Octane. My luxury car runs on 87 Octane fuel recommended by the manufacturer.
