Sri Lanka hopeful of reaching staff level agreement with IMF on fourth review: Minister

Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka will be able to reach a staff level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the fourth review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement within this week, Minister of Labour Anil Jayantha Fernando said today.

He told the media that the Sri Lankan delegation that is currently visiting Washington is engaged in preliminary level discussions with the IMF team and that the discussions are successful.

He said Sri Lanka has launched a programme to achieve the criteria set by the IMF.

The Minister said the visiting Sri Lankan team managed to hold discussion with the United States Trade Representatives office on the recently imposed reciprocal tariffs in line with the discussions on the EFF programme.

He said the US team has praised Sri Lanka on its swift action, diplomacy and intervention regarding the US tariffs adding that the discussions with the US team has concluded on a positive note.

"We will reveal the agreements which could be reached with the USA on trade and investment," he said.

The Minister said only India and Sri Lanka had visited the USA and made an intervention with regard to the reciprocal tariffs.

Oh dear, we truly have a L board Govt. Dr Harini was worried that she did not have experience in bankrupting a nation. If this govt continues to bullshit the voters with trivia without making plans for growth and increasing dollar revenue etc. she might end up getting that experience while we languish in the queues once again. Sir you have a duty to give emphasis to the real issues that will solve our 2028 massive dollar outflow. GR govt also survived for 2 years with a 2/3rd majority then one hickup in the pandemic we were ruined.

Wonderful news. Writing a letter seems to do the trick. Should we be teaching Sinhala to counties like South Korea who according to US Trade Secretary are only expected to reach a 'trade understanding ' next week. Our tutors would find more lucrative than teaching Korean to job aspirants?
