Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka will be able to reach a staff level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the fourth review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement within this week, Minister of Labour Anil Jayantha Fernando said today.
He told the media that the Sri Lankan delegation that is currently visiting Washington is engaged in preliminary level discussions with the IMF team and that the discussions are successful.
He said Sri Lanka has launched a programme to achieve the criteria set by the IMF.
The Minister said the visiting Sri Lankan team managed to hold discussion with the United States Trade Representatives office on the recently imposed reciprocal tariffs in line with the discussions on the EFF programme.
He said the US team has praised Sri Lanka on its swift action, diplomacy and intervention regarding the US tariffs adding that the discussions with the US team has concluded on a positive note.
"We will reveal the agreements which could be reached with the USA on trade and investment," he said.
The Minister said only India and Sri Lanka had visited the USA and made an intervention with regard to the reciprocal tariffs.
