Colombo, Sept. 12 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka is witnessing “political terrorism” driven by personal revenge and a lack of discipline and professionalism, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today.
On his official Facebook page, he said that he is returning to where it all began.
“As my eldest son Namal said, I have returned to my village where it all began. I travelled here via the Southern Expressway that we built. Now, I can enjoy a sour fish stew in the village.”
The remarks came after Rajapaksa vacated his official residence at Wijerama, in line with the recently enacted Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Act, No. 18 of 2025, which stripped former heads of state of housing and other privileges.
Dismissing calls made in the media for him to leave the residence earlier, Rajapaksa said he did not feel obliged to respond to political opponents who, according to him, were trying to cover up their failures.
“I had no need to listen to statements made in front of the media by a group of people who, unable to do anything for the people and who were becoming increasingly disenchanted with the public in a very short period of time, were trying to cover up their incompetence,” he wrote.
“I have learned of a statement claiming that Mahinda Rajapaksa now deserves to be hanged. Personally, I do not respond to such direct targeting. However, I wish to state that as long as I live, and for as long as we all live under the shelter of the lion flag, I will rise up—no matter the suffering—against anyone who betrays this unitary motherland. On that day, if necessary, I know well that the Maha Sangha and our beloved people of this country will stand ready to make any sacrifice. Political threats and loud rhetoric are nothing new to Mahinda Rajapaksa of Giruwapattuwa.” he added.
Meanwhile, he recalled his past role at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, where he said he represented the disappeared despite facing what he described as political repression and reprisals.

Do not call this sensible act political terrorism' it is wrong of politicians to arouse people who may not be educated like you to take action. the time has come to support this government which is trying to balance the books after a period of highflying presidential squandering of the nations wealth.

There is no political terrorism or revenge ,it’s purely a step taken by the government ,fulfilling the promise they made to the public during the election. Don’t mixed up revenge and the fulfillment of a promise. The way you took revenge from army commander Sarath Fonseka and Chief justice Shiran Bandaranaike speaks volumes of how you took revenge from the people during your presidency. So don’t talk nonsense.

Sorry MR, the interpretation is wrong, it is not political revenge, it is the right thing to do for the poor tax payers hard earned money which are spent on luxury living of individuals who are well positioned to spend on them. If you are a real patriot as you say, should have vacated or not accepted the government spent houses.

MR, There is nothing personal nor Political in what is taking place. For us the Citizens of this country, this is clean governance, law and order as it should have been for years! This country was ruined by the corruption, drugs and the thuggery culture you and your family cultivated. Politicians are not above the law nor can you lavishly squander state resources for personal comfort. You have to face the consequences now. Besides your efforts in coning terms like `political terrorism` wont draw the crowds to save you any more.

All these actions were promised to the voters and that’s why they voted in such a way to NPP and so your claim has no relevance. It’s is a mandate from people and as a seasoned politician you know this well so retire gleefully enjoying your fish stew.

AKD, who had worked with Julia Chung to dethrone His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the US machination known as ARAGALAYA, took USAID funds to act secretly against the National will and interest of the fellow citizens to enthrone in a degraded manner. Curbing the entitlement of both former presidents, His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa and His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is a great disgrace to Sri Lanka and its people.

Majority Sri Lankan People do not think the actions taken by the People's government is a political revenge . NPP , people's government taken steps to do what they promised to People of Sri Lanka . NPP government clearly understand their responsibilities as an one of the people's governments elected in modern South Asia by the majority citizens and The NPP government doesn't wanted to be another people's government like Nopal government that didn't act what they promised and faced horrific situation that NOT happened in recent times in the history of Nopal .

In developed countries, salaries or perks by an employer to employees are based on performance. If I say that MR gave political leadership to finish a war which costed the country Rs 740.00 per second, more than 10 lives a day, a threat to separate the country, isn't he qualified to be given a comfortable retirement with a luxury house in Colombo and other perks? Also, if there are any development projects done after year 2000 aren't they the only ones done under his regime? Increase in oer capital income, increase in economic growth weren't they at record levels between 2010 and 2015? Anyway, I know that whatever I say , he will be accused as a rogue until his demise.

Indra Dasa Sunday, 14 September 2025 04:04 AM
Majority believe performance should not be accomplished only with the political leadership that had been given by MR government to complete the ethnic confit . However after completing the ethnic conflict in May , 2009 with many ultimate sacrifices by the three defence forces , Police ,STF and Civil forces under the clever leader ships of all head of armed forces , especially Field Marshal SF , Sri Lanka should be on the path to development , with out mis management . Due to prolong misused of the economy at the end country and people faced dare situations for a long period of time . Therefore performances of the most politicians who governed Sri Lanka has been failed .

After you and your family came to power, you have ruined our society. Increase in fraud, bribery, corruption, nepotism, cruelty, lawlessness, family disunity, unruly youth, decline in morals, ethics, loss of talent to foreign countries, unilateral decisions without data and facts, public transport decline, unruly three wheeler and motorbike drivers and many more. You have a political party to give opportunities for your family and selfish life. Racism, Buddhism used to stir up the people to feel insecure and keep you in power forever. Your war victory is because of help from other countries and General Fonseka. Your family lacks good quality education and commonsense. When your political career is threatened, you take refuge under people cover and Monks cover. You have destroyed our beloved motherland Sri Lanka.
