Sri Lanka carves out a niche in some sectors: Indian HC



Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu has said, if SriLankan Airlines is the largest foreign carrier to India; if the 80 % of business of Colombo Port comes from India-related transhipment cargo; if Indians are the largest source market for Sri Lankan tourism; it is not because India and Sri Lanka are neighbours but because Sri Lanka has carved out a niche for itself in certain sectors.

He said this at the 11th Annual General Meeting of the Indo-Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry held in Colombo. The High Commissioner appreciated the contribution made by the Indo-Lanka Chamber towards strengthening of Indo-Lanka bilateral relations.

He said the cornerstone of India’s foreign policy, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas aur Sabka Vishwas” (together with all, for the development all, and with the trust of all), was not just for India, it was our approach towards the whole world, and remains most significant in our neighbourhood.

President of the Indo-Lanka Chamber Romesh David in his speech spoke about the active engagement between the industries of the two countries. He also enumerated the efforts made by the Indo-Lanka Chamber in further strengthening bilateral economic relations, recalling the visit led by the Chamber to CII Partnership summit in Mumbai on January 2019.
