Sri Lanka and Singapore sign MoU on AI collaboration



Colombo, July 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Digital Economy of Sri Lanka and AI Singapore (AISG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on AI Collaboration yesterday (28) at the National University of Singapore’s Kent Ridge campus. 

The MoU was signed by Director of AI Innovation from AI Singapore, Laurence Liew and the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, Senarath Dissanayake on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka.

The partnership with AI Singapore, one of the region’s leading national AI programmes, comes at a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka’s digital transformation journey and is expected to significantly contribute to enhancing the country’s digital capabilities, aligned with global best practices in AI governance. 

Sri Lanka seeks to strengthen cooperation in advisory support, AI knowledge exchange, and capacity building, as the country advances its vision for a Digitally Inclusive Nation. 

The signing of the MoU coincides with the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Singapore and underscores the growing partnership between the two countries in the fields of innovation and digital transformation.

Director of AI Innovation, Laurence Liew reaffirmed Singapore’s readiness to support Sri Lanka’s digital ambitions, noting that AI Singapore is pleased to share its experience and frameworks with a like-minded partner. He emphasized that the collaboration reflects Singapore’s belief in the transformative power of AI to improve lives and the importance of collaborative innovation.
