Colombo, Oct. 6 (Daily Mirror) - Emphasizing the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections and broadening cooperation to enhance the close bilateral ties between the two countries, the newly appointed Sri Lanka High Commissioner to the Republic of Maldives, Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, presented his Letters of Credence to Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday.
President Muizzu formally accepted the credentials and welcomed High Commissioner Hassen as Sri Lanka’s envoy to the Maldives. The two dignitaries discussed areas of mutual interest, including trade, the economy, and climate change, while reaffirming their commitment to further deepening the partnership between the two nations, which first established diplomatic relations on 26 July 1965.
Following the presentation ceremony, High Commissioner Hassen paid a courtesy call on Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister Khaleel warmly congratulated the High Commissioner on his appointment and held discussions on strengthening long-standing bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Minister Khaleel expressed appreciation for Sri Lanka’s continued support in various sectors, particularly in education and human resource development, and acknowledged the enduring people-to-people ties between the two nations. High Commissioner Hassen reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and exploring new areas of collaboration in line with shared regional priorities.
