Sri Lanka Railways to resume key train services after Cyclone Ditwah



Colombo, January 17 (Daily Mirror) -Sri Lanka Railways has announced the resumption of several train services that were suspended due to Cyclone Ditwah, including the Night Mail trains to Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

Accordingly, the Night Mail train operating between Colombo Fort and Trincomalee is scheduled to resume services from January 20. The Pulathisi Intercity Express, which runs between Colombo Fort and Batticaloa, will also recommence daily operations from the same date.

Sri Lanka Railways further stated that the Udaya Devi train service will be reinstated under a revised timetable following the improvement of disaster conditions.

Meanwhile, restoration work on the Northern Railway Line, which sustained damage during the cyclone, is due to begin on January 19 with financial assistance from the Government of India. Owing to these reconstruction activities, train operations will be restricted to the Colombo Fort–Mahawa section until further notice.

Sri Lanka Railways added that details regarding the full resumption of services will be announced once repair work is completed.
