Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan discuss expanding defence and security ties



Colombo, July 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Sri Lanka Sergey Viktorov, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) at the Ministry of Defence.

The Deputy Minister and the Defence Secretary warmly welcomed Ambassador Viktorov, with discussions taking place in a cordial atmosphere.

Talks focused on further strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan, with particular emphasis on expanding bilateral cooperation in defence and security-related fields. Key areas discussed included military training and exchange programmes, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) training and support, regional security, and capacity building.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on enhancing collaboration and fostering closer engagement between the two countries.

Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Kazakhstan, Rustem Jamankulov, also attended the meeting.
