Colombo, September 2 (Daily Mirror) - – Special attention has been given to enforcing the law against fraudulent intermediaries involved in the recruitment of Sri Lankan nurses to Israel, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra said.
He made these remarks during a discussion held yesterday (1) with officials of Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) on issues related to contractual employment between the two countries.
The talks focused on two main areas. The first was complaints against intermediaries who pressure nurse recruits for money, demand land or property as guarantees, and engage in other fraudulent practices. The Deputy Minister said strict action will be taken against such individuals through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and measures will be introduced to make the recruitment process more transparent.
The second issue discussed was the problems faced by Sri Lankan workers in Israel’s hotel sector. Officials said positive responses were received from the Israeli side, and both countries will work toward finding speedy solutions.
