Sri Lanka Girl Guides key to building female leadership: PM

Building female leadership is important for today’s society, and the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association can play a big role in achieving this goal, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said.

She said this while speaking at the Presidential Girl Guide Awards Ceremony held yesterday at Temple Trees.

“I’m happy to take part in this ceremony where the Presidential and Prime Minister’s Awards are given by the Girl Guides Association. The movement started in 1917 at Girls' High School in Kandy and has now spread across the country,” she said.

She said the Girl Guides help train girls from the age of eight to become strong individuals who can face challenges and lead the country in the future.

“What Sri Lanka needs is a strong next generation,” she said, praising the award winners and thanking the parents, teachers, mentors, and guide leaders who supported them.

She also said the Girl Guides Association creates a good space where girls are empowered and can help shape the future of the country.
