Sri Lanka, Cuba explore expanded cooperation in education and agriculture



Colombo, March 27 (Dialy Mirror) - Sri Lanka and Cuba have held discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on education, agriculture and sports.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya met with Cuban Ambassador Patricia Lazara Pego Guerra on March 26 at the Prime Minister’s Office, where both sides reaffirmed their longstanding and cordial relations.

Talks centred on enhancing collaboration in education, including potential exchange programmes and capacity-building initiatives to support human resource development in both countries.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in agriculture, particularly through knowledge sharing and the exchange of technical expertise to promote sustainable farming practices. Strengthening ties in the field of sports was also highlighted during the meeting.

Senior officials attending the discussion included Secretary to the Prime Minister and Additional Secretary Sagarika Bogahawatta, along with Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ratnasingam Kohularangan.

The discussions reflect ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen sector-specific cooperation while maintaining strong diplomatic ties.
