Sports Minister takes over SLC administration after mass resignation

Colombo, April 29 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry has taken over the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket with immediate effect after Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage accepted the resignation of President Shammi Silva and the Executive Committee.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that, under powers vested in the Minister by Sections 31 and 34 of the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973, the administration of SLC has been temporarily brought under the Ministry with immediate effect.

Accordingly, all administrative functions of the cricket governing body will now fall under the Ministry’s oversight until further arrangements are made.

The statement further noted that a committee will be appointed in the coming days to identify solutions to prevailing issues in the sport and to implement structural reforms within SLC.

The move follows the formal resignation of the SLC leadership earlier today, which was communicated to the government.
