Colombo, April 18 (Daily Mirror) - Significant traffic disruptions are expected in parts of Colombo and along key access routes as authorities implement a special traffic plan for the official visit of Indian Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan.
Police said the restrictions will be in effect on April 19 and 20, coinciding with the dignitary’s movements between Bandaranaike International Airport and central Colombo.
The motorcade is expected to travel via the Katunayake–Colombo Expressway before entering the city through Grandpass and Orugodawatta, proceeding along Baseline Road, Borella, and the D. S. Senanayake Junction, and continuing through several major intersections, including Horton Place, Nelum Pokuna, and Galle Road.
Authorities warned that intermittent road closures and traffic diversions will be implemented along the route, particularly during the motorcade’s movement. Motorists have been urged to plan ahead and use alternative routes to avoid delays.
Police also announced that heavy vehicles, including container trucks and tipper trucks transporting construction materials, will be barred from operating along the affected roads for at least two hours prior to the motorcade’s movement. Additional vehicle restrictions may also be imposed depending on security requirements.
The convoy is scheduled to conclude its journey at the Taj Samudra Hotel, where official arrival ceremonies will take place.
Authorities have called on the public to cooperate with the temporary measures in place to ensure smooth traffic flow and security during the high-level visit.
