Special police security programme in place for Colombo Vesak zones

A special security and traffic programme has been introduced by the Sri Lanka Police for the protection of scores of people expected to arrive in Colombo in the coming days for the Vesak festival.

These security measures are in place for the safety and convenience of the public that is to visit three main Vesak zones in Colombo. 

The three main Vesak zones are the ‘Buddha Rashmi’ Vesak zone at Gangaramaya, Hunupitiya which has jointly been organised by the Prime Minister's Secretariat and the Gangaramaya Temple from May 12 - 16, the Bauddhaloka Vesak zone organised by the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress from May 12 – 14 and the Sirasa Vesak zone from May 12 – 13.

Police advise the public to be extra vigilant about their personal belongings including jewellery and little children they accompany as well as where to park their vehicles, whilst a special CCTV camera system is in place covering all Vesak zones, the police media desk announced.
