Special commodity levy on dates slashed to Rs. 1

The special commodity levy on dates has been reduced from Rs. 200 to Rs. 1, effective from today (28) until March 31, 2025.

The levy reduction was announced through a gazette notification issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Why you making these silly decisions? from 200 to 1? Why not 100 and still earn some revenue? As they say in Tamil either a pony tail or full shave; nothing in between. Do we always elect irrational leaders? or they become irrational when elected?

@Maaran - You need to have a proper understanding and knowledge of situations around you. When complete details of decisions taken by the government are not given in the media, this does not mean that all the decisioins are silly decisions.

It's time to grow date trees.Look for tree types that yield fruits in short time.We do have excellent dry climate for this t6pe of fruits.US A grows Medjul dates and exports it to Arabic countries.Why not us?
