Comprehensive security and special arrangements have been put in place for the General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) Examination 2025 (2026), which will be held from February 17 to 26, the Department of Examinations Sri Lanka announced.
This year, 451,463 candidates comprising 382,249 school applicants and 69,214 private candidates will sit the examination at 3,545 centres across the country. To ensure efficient coordination, 531 coordination centres and 33 regional assembly centres have also been established.
Authorities said that Police and Armed Forces personnel will provide security at examination centres throughout the examination period. The Disaster Management Center will remain on standby to respond swiftly to any emergency situation.
Special examination centres have been arranged in Ratmalana, Tangalle, Matara and Chilaw, while dedicated facilities have also been established at Watareka Suneetha Vidyalaya, Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and Kaithadi Nuffield Special School to support candidates requiring special assistance.
The Department highlighted that candidates must carry a valid National Identity Card, passport or driving licence for identity verification. Strict regulations will be enforced, and candidates are prohibited from bringing mobile phones, smart devices, electronic equipment, calculators, erasers, notebooks or any unauthorized materials into the examination halls.
Applicants with special needs were identified in advance through an application and interview process, and necessary accommodations have been provided after reviewing medical documentation.
Candidates have been instructed to report to their designated examination centres at least one hour before the start of each paper and to comply fully with examination regulations and instructions issued by supervising staff.
