Speaker approves emergency debate on Iran–Israel conflict

Colombo, June 18 (Daily Mirror) - Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne has granted approval for an emergency debate on the ongoing Iran–Israel conflict, scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. today.

The debate was requested by 20 opposition MPs through a motion submitted in accordance with parliamentary standing orders.

Hope the opposition will use this opportunity to discuss the situation and assist the government to minimize the effects of the war ,rather than shouting and bringing issues irrelevant to the subject.

Despite being in parliament for over 30 years, the president has yet to present a clear plan to steer the country in the right direction, often stating that they are still learning. Meanwhile, people seem to find amusement in political statements rather than critically observing and learning from them. Leadership should be about action, not endless promises.

At yesterday's parliament session the speaker's attitude and action have to be condemned as he appeared to be bias favouring the govt MPs by not giving even the leader of the Opposition as well as some of their members the opportunity to talk about the Mid-East war, which could affect oil prices soon. This resulted in the Opposition walking out. The speaker should be more flexible in his actions.

Where's the emergency debate for that? Name these MPs and let their constituents give them a reality check!

I do not know why the government allow these thugs with no sense to survive in politics! No other country including India has a decent group in the parliament opposition! This is the only country with useless opposition! Some people are still backing these Pin Padias wasting their funds! Rs 2500 for talking rubbish in addition to a big allowance and Pin Padi!
