Spanish lady says ’no’, youth say ’yes’
Colombo, September 2 (Daily Mirror) - Three tour guides have been arrested and remanded for allegedly sexually abusing and assaulting a 31-year-old Spanish woman while she was dancing with her boyfriend at a DJ party in Kalpitiya.
Police said the incident took place on August 30 in the Kudawa area, where the woman, who had arrived in the Kandakuliya area of Kalpitiya with her boyfriend, was attending a DJ event at a nearby hotel.
In her complaint, the woman said that both foreigners and local youths were present at the party, and that everyone had been enjoying the music and dancing. However, she claimed a group of men approached her, touched her inappropriately, and then assaulted her when she objected.
She sustained an injury above her left eye and sought treatment at a private hospital in Puttalam.
The woman lodged a written complaint with the Kalpitiya Police on August 31, identifying the three suspects.
The suspects, aged 23, 34, and 39, all residents of Kalpitiya, were arrested during the investigation and produced before the Kalpitiya Magistrate's Court.
They were remanded until September 15.
