Colombo, Jan. 20 (Daily Mirror) - The Southern Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority has introduced a new mobile application to provide passengers with real-time information on bus services, including arrival times at bus stops across the Southern Province.

The official launch of the application, named ‘SP Bus’, was held at the Matara Main Bus Stand under the patronage of Member of Parliament Ajantha Gammaddage.

According to the Authority, the app has been developed to make public transport more convenient by offering key details such as estimated bus arrival times and service availability.

As part of the initiative, the installation of GPS devices in buses began today. The new system will enable passengers to track the real-time location of buses and verify whether a particular service is operating.

Officials will also benefit from the technology, as it allows them to monitor bus speeds, detect instances of buses competing with one another, and identify delays or failures to commence services on schedule.

The Authority added that all Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses operating within the Southern Province will be monitored throughout their journeys under its supervision.
