Sonal Dinusha set to be in Sri Lanka squad

  • Sri Lanka’s 24-year-old Sonal Dinusha is in line for the call up for the 17-member squad for the Test series against Australia, it is learnt. According to the well-placed sources close to the selectors, the 24-yearbowling all rounder is likely to have been asked to join the preparatory camp to begin today.

The newcomer Sonal Dinusha is a slow left arm spinner and a left-hand batter. The squad, though not announced yet, assembled at Galle yesterday and a training camp will begin under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Sanath Jayasuriya and his support staff members.

“It is not going to the regular practice sessions but is a rare type of camp arrangement for the home series. Generally, we held camps only before the team travelled on tour and only the net sessions for the home series. This time camp is held prior to the regular practice sessions. The net sessions are to commence from 26th January,” the source informs exclusively.

Pathum Nissanka has a groin injury and we are monitoring his injury. The first of the two Tests are still more than a week away. If he misses the first Test, may be available for the second Test,” the source added.

The visiting Australian team under the captaincy of Steve Smith, who has been cleared after his injury, is scheduled to arrive on January 25.
