Some conspirators were attempting to taint the genuine struggle by resorting to various activities within the President’s House, Presidential Secretariat and Temple Trees that were taken over by the protesters, Socialists Youth Union (SYU) said yesterday.
SYU Convener Eranga Gunasekara told a news conference that they, as an active party to the struggle, were intervening to restrict various activities within the premises taken over by the protesters.
He said this while responding to a question that the behaviour and activities of the protesters inside the President’s House, Presidential Secretariat and Temple Trees have been questioned by various people.
“People had to take over these premises as the rulers refuse to step down as demanded by the people. They should have relinquished their positions, realising the aftermath of the struggle. This struggle is not over yet. Some conspirators are trying to taint and divert the genuine purpose of this struggle. As an active party to this struggle, we are mediating to restrict such activities,” he said and added that people should be aware of this situation. He said their struggle is not with the buildings and equipment but with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the 74-year-old political system.
Gunasekara said they have learnt that an investigation has begun into the premises taken over by the protesters and that there was a move to arrest some of the protesters. “We urge the IGP to stop such moves,” he said.(Ajith Siriwardana)
