The social security contribution Levy under which a tax is charged for all imported products used for imported material used to produce various goods was approved by Parliament with amendments today.

The second reading of the Bill was approved by a majority of 81 votes with 91 members voting for it and 10 against.

MPs Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dilan Perera, Three JJB MPs led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake and three SJB MPs including Ajith Mannaperuma, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella and Asok Abeysinghe voted against.

Rest of the SJB MPs including Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa were absent during the time of voting.

Total number of MPs who were absent during the second reading vote were 123. The third reading of the vote was approved without a vote.✅ (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

There are more MPs absent from our parliament than available. The SBJ, and their big financial spokesmen like Harasha and Eran are nowhere. The Dullas SLPP faction seems as a whole missing from action. Wimal and Gamampilla must be all pro-budget to miss the chance to vote against this. Awful to see how dysfunctional our so called opposition is accept for the opposition from the JVP/JJPers. Sajith should give up his role as Opposition leader to persons who make the effort to be in parliament to actually oppose or speak against government proposals as necessary.

SJB and JJB should resign. You should have voted against to support crumbling of non-BOI small industries who needs imports for their exports. You are spineless, non committing lot keep sneaking away from any all possible chances to support the general public. Just stop giving big talks ok. Nonsense !!!

So the absent MPs have allowed the Bill to be passed to impose burden on the people. The whole 225 should be accountable to the rut.
