Colombo, April 12 (Daily Mirror) - Six individuals have been apprehended by the Sri Lanka Navy for engaging in illegal night diving to harvest sea cucumbers during a search operation carried out at Nagar Kovil Beach in Jaffna.
According to Sri Lanka Navy, the operation was conducted by Naval Deployment Veththalakerni under the Northern Naval Command, following the interception of two suspicious dinghies approaching the shore.
Upon inspection, naval personnel recovered 939 sea cucumbers that had been illegally harvested using prohibited night diving methods.
The Navy also seized two dinghies and a set of diving equipment believed to have been used in the unlawful activity.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 37, have been identified as residents of Mannar and Vellvettiturai.
Further investigations are underway.
