Six drown on Sunday

Four persons reported drowned while bathing in several areas yesterday, while two men were reported missing while fishing in the Yodha Wewa at Uyilankulam.

Police said two persons aged 21 and 66 were reported drowned while bathing off the Eththalaya beach in Norochcholai yesterday. The victims were among a group of family members from Madurankuliya touring Norochcholai.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old from Matale was drowned while bathing off the Pasikuda beach. The victim was touring the area with a group and drowned while bathing in the unprotected area.

Police said two men engaged in fishing in the Yodha Wewa in Uyilankulam have gone missing yesterday.

A search operation was launched following information that the fishermen had gone for fishing in a boat and had not returned.

The missing persons aged 37 and 55 are residents of Parappakandal.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man from Negombo drowned while bathing with a group in the Deduru Oya in Chilaw. The body of the victim was recovered by Police and the Navy a few hours after the incident. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
