'Siri Dalada Vandanawa' commences tomorrow; President to attend inauguration ceremony



Colombo, April 17 (Daily Mirror) - The 'Siri Dalada Vandanawa', a special veneration of the Sacred Tooth Relic, will commence tomorrow (18) at 12:30 p.m., after a lapse of 16 years, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to participate in the inauguration ceremony.

In addition, several foreign diplomats are expected to attend the event. Special arrangements have been made for them to travel from Colombo to Kandy via a dedicated train service.

At the President’s request, the Siri Dalada Vandanawa will be held under the guidance of the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters, and under the direction of the Diyawadana Nilame of the historic Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. 

The event will continue for ten days, from tomorrow (18) till April 27.

On the opening day, the public will have the opportunity to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. From the following day (19) onwards, veneration will be open daily from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
