Sinhala New Year events under tight security watch



Colombo, April 11 (Daily Mirror) - Police said yesterday that special security and traffic arrangements will be in place during the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season.

More than 35,000 police officers have been deployed across the country to ensure public safety and manage traffic during the celebrations.

Security and traffic measures will be implemented at New Year events, concerts, and exhibitions expected to draw large crowds.

In the Colombo area alone, over 6,000 officers have been assigned to duty, particularly in anticipation of heavy crowds at popular shopping destinations.

Police officers will be 35,000 police officers deployed island-wide Special traffic, security measures in place stationed in key locations including Fort, Galle Face, Borella, Kirulapone, and Bambalapitiya, as well as at places of worship throughout the city.

Police said that a special traffic plan has also been introduced to reduce congestion during this busy period.

Police urge the public to cooperate with officers— particularly traffic officers working to maintain order and safety throughout the festivities.
