The prevailing showery conditions over the island are expected to subside to some extent, the Meteorological Department said.
They said showers could be expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
Thunderstorms are possible in Uva, Eastern, and North-Central provinces during the afternoon or night.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautionary measures to safeguard from damage caused by gusty winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the department said that showers or thundershowers has been forecast for several places over the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be westerly or south-westerly in direction. The winds could gather speed to 20-30 km/h and could intensify up to 50 km/h at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.
