Shooting during police mobile patrol in Akmeemana, suspect injured

A suspect was injured and hospitalised after police opened fire during a mobile patrol in Akmeemana last night.

Police said the shooting took place when two Akmeemana police officers on mobile patrol were about to check two persons.

They said one of the persons fled the scene and the other had tried to attack the officers and hurl a bomb at them when they tried to check them on suspicion.

One of the suspects was injured in the shooting and was admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.

Later, the fleeing suspect was also arrested and 105 rounds of T-56 ammunition were found in his possession, police said.
