Shashi Weerawansa’s bail application to be considered tomorrow

The bail application filed on behalf of Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa was fixed for tomorrow (31) by Colombo Chief Magistrate.

When the matter came up before Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe, the court was informed that notices to be served on the Attorney General regarding this application.

Accordingly, the Chief Magistrate issued notices on the Attorney General returnable for May 31.

On last Friday (27), the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court imposed a two-year-rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 100,000 on Shashi Weerawansa.

This is over an incident where Mrs. Weerawansa had fraudulently obtained two passports including a diplomatic passport by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Meanwhile, Shashi Weerawansa had filed an appeal in the Colombo High Court through the Magistrate's Court registrar office challenging the judgment of Magistrate's Court.(Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

What she has done is a non bailable offence so how to bail out. Is she above law. Judges need to give judgements according to law since they need to protect themselves too.
