Shammi Silva set to step down this week

Colombo, April 27 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva is expected to step down from his position on Wednesday (29), amid mounting pressure and ongoing discussions at the highest levels of government, according to informed sources.

However, it remains unclear whether the SLC Executive Committee will also step down alongside him. Sources indicate that Silva’s decision follows a request made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Insider sources revealed that Silva met President Dissanayake last Friday to discuss a possible exit strategy. The meeting is understood to have been cordial.

In the event of Silva’s resignation, authorities may appoint an interim committee or place the board under a competent authority until fresh elections are held.

Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament Eran Wickramaratne is expected to be appointed as the new President of Sri Lanka Cricket.

As reported exclusively by the Daily Mirror earlier, President Dissanayake had asked Silva to step down amid increasing pressure from multiple quarters, including players, calling for his resignation.
