Colombo, Oct. 21 (Daily Mirror) - Ishara Sewwandi, arrested for her role in the murder of underworld figure “Ganemulla Sanjeewa,” told investigators that she assisted in the killing in the hope of being sent to a European country, police sources said.

Sewwandi also told the police that she did not receive any payment from Kehelbaddara Padme for providing the revolver. She allegedly hid the firearm inside a law book before secretly handing it over to the gunman who carried out the attack.

Police added that Sewwandi had fled to Nepal and remained in hiding, anticipating that Padme would arrange her travel to Europe, and she is currently under police questioning in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, officials from the Colombo Crime Division had taken Ishara Sewwandi to the Kilinochchi area and conducted investigations at two residences where she had stayed before fleeing to India.

During the operation, a person who had provided accommodation to Sewwandi at one of the houses was taken into custody by a police team that travelled from Colombo, police sources said.
