Colombo, Oct. 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over a series of false and defamatory posts circulating on social media against Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe and his public relations officer, Nimodie Wickramasinghe.
According to the ministry, several Facebook pages and websites have been publishing fabricated stories, edited images, and misleading claims aimed at tarnishing the personal, family, and professional reputations of the minister and his staff, as well as damaging his political image.
The complaint, registered under reference number 20039516, calls on the CID to identify those responsible for creating and sharing the defamatory content and to take appropriate legal action.
Individuals and pages named in the complaint include Nimantha Perera, Dumindu Jayasuriya, K.W. Padmasiri, Manjula Perera, Rannu Jazze, Thushari Pathiraja, Palitha Dewasiri, Rasika Vikumpriya, Fernando Inoka, and the “Gampaha Podu Jana Handa” Facebook page.
