Seven notorious gang members transferred to high-security prison at Welisara

Colombo, April 12 (Daily Mirror) - Seven notorious members of organized crime gangs have been transferred from the Boossa High-Security Prison to a newly established high-security detention facility at the Welisara Navy Camp.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Aruna Jayasekara said that the transfer was carried out yesterday.

The inmates include several well-known underworld figures: “Wele Suda,” “Dematagoda Chaminda,” “Loku Patty,” “Midigama Ruwan,” “Backhoe Saman,” “Army Sampath,” and “Manna Ramesh.”

Authorities said that the decision follows intelligence reports suggesting that certain inmates at Boossa Prison had been continuing criminal operations from within the facility. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the safety of these high-profile detainees.

The newly constructed prison at Welisara Navy Camp features enhanced security measures and has been designated to house high-risk organized crime figures, with these seven inmates becoming its first detainees.
