Seven injured in clash at Anamaduwa New Year festival



Colombo, April 19 (Daily Mirror) - At least seven individuals were hospitalized following a violent altercation that erupted during a New Year (Avurudu) festival in the Karambawe area of Anamaduwa yesterday (18). According to the police, the injured persons were rushed to the Anamaduwa Base Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the clash originated from a long-standing dispute between two groups attending the community-organized event. What began as a heated verbal argument quickly escalated into a physical brawl, involving approximately 20 individuals who were participating in the festivities.

The Anamaduwa Police said that while seven people sustained injuries, none are currently in critical condition. 

Police launched an investigation into the incident, recording statements from witnesses and those involved to identify the primary suspects and the exact cause of the escalation.
