Selfie attempt at Knuckles Waterfall claims lives of two schoolboys

Colombo, July 23 (Daily Mirror) - Two schoolboys lost their lives after attempting to take selfies from the top of the Jodu Ella waterfall in the Knuckles forest range yesterday.

The victims, identified as B. Saljith and K. Delon, were Grade Nine students of the Knuckles Tamil Maha Vidyalaya and residents of Knuckles Estate in Thawalantenna.

According to police investigations, the two boys were among a group of five schoolboys who had visited the scenic Jodu Ella waterfall. While standing on a boulder at the top of the falls to take selfies, they reportedly slipped and plunged into the waterfall.

One of the boys died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries while being transferred from the Madolkele Divisional Hospital to the National Hospital, Kandy.

The Panvila Police have launched an investigation into the fatal incident.
