Colombo, Feb 25 (Daily Mirror) - The second reading of Budget 2025 was approved by a majority of 109 votes in Parliament a short while ago.

A total of 155 members voted in favor, while 46 voted against.

Meanwhile, 24 members were absent during the vote.

Opposition MP Selvam Adekaranathan voted in favor.

@LK - "Well done"? When you have 159 out of the 225 seats in the parliament, you could easily pass any budget or piece of legislation without any issue! There is nothing to be jubilant about it. You could say "well done" when these budget proposals actually IMPLEMENTED on the ground before the next budget. With Rs 7 trillion expenditure and about Rs 5 trillion raised from taxes (primarily), how on earth is this government bridge the deficit? Through borrowings? Out of the Rs 7 trillion, do you know that only Rs about 1 trillion has been allocated for capital expenditure and rest is for, mostly, salary expenditure subsidies salvage the Sri Lankan airlines (Rs 20 billion), etc.? So, what to expect?
