Scotland pull off stunning win, end Zimbabwe’s hopes of World Cup qualification

Scotland pulled off a stunning 31-run win over Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, ending the home team's hopes of joining Sri Lanka in qualifying for the Cricket World Cup later this year.

Chasing 235 for victory, that would have guaranteed them a place at the World Cup, Zimbabwe were reduced tpo 37 for 4, with Scot fast-bowler Chris Sole delivering a stunning opening spell and taking three wickets.

A 54-run partnership between Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl had given the home team some momentum before Chris Greaves accounted for the crucial wicket of Raza.

Burl and Wessly Madhevere appeared to have put that blip behind and had Zimbabwe with a 73-run partnership which brought them to within 71 runs of victory.

The wicket of Madhevere scuppered that attempt, as the hosts went from 164 for 5 to 203 all out -- the last five wickets falling for 39.

The Scots suffered a mini-collpase of thier own during thier innings when the slipped from 102 for 1 to 118 for 4, but Michael Leask scored 48 from 34 to ensure that Scotland ended on a respectable score of 234 for 8.
