Colombo, Dec. 12 (Daily Mirror) - Close to 100 inmates reportedly escaped from the Kandakadu rehabilitation camp in Welikanda this afternoon (11), and an operation was launched to find them.
Police said a group of around 100 inmates who were undergoing residential rehabilitation in the camp had broken the fence of the camp and escaped at around 5:30 pm yesterday.
This group had reportedly escaped amid a tense situation in the camp.
A joint operation has been launched by the Police and the Army to locate the escaped inmates.
Police said at least 15 escaped inmates have been apprehended during the operation.
The group had reportedly escaped to the Kandakadu forest area and searching for them has become more difficult at night.

The correct name is Kandungkaadu - which in Tamil refers to a forest at the edge of a village and certainly not Kandakadu.
